Together, we are stronger than cancer, and early next month the Middle Peninsula community will come together to prove just that.
Riverside will host the 7th Annual Tree of Lights Gala, presented by Spain Commercial, Inc., Saturday, Dec. 2, starting at 6 p.m. at the Abingdon Ruritan Club in Bena just off of Guinea Road.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Riverside Walter Reed Hospital Make a Difference Fund, specifically earmarked to support cancer patients on the Middle Peninsula.
Entertainment will be provided by The Michael Clark Band featuring Tracy Clark, and a full dinner will be served by Olivia’s in the Village.
Tickets to attend are $75 for an individual or $450 for a table of eight.
“In 2015 alone, right here on the Middle Peninsula, the state reported 404 new cases of cancer,” said Jennifer Frank of the Riverside Foundation. “That same year, Riverside treated 317 new cases of cancer, or over 78 percent of patients diagnosed in that year. At our upcoming Tree of Lights Gala, you can support the remarkable men and women fighting cancer each day.”
The funds raised from the Tree of Lights Gala will specifically help cancer patients on the Middle Peninsula access therapeutic and support services not always covered by insurance, including massage therapy, nutrition counseling, music therapy and more.
“Studies show that cancer patients can greatly reduce their treatment side effects with proper nutrition counseling,” Frank said. “The average cost of a dinner for two could pay for massage and music therapy for one cancer patient, both of which have been proven to decrease pain and stress associated with cancer treatment.”
Corporate and private sponsors are welcome to get involved in the event, too. For more information on sponsoring the Tree of Lights Gala, contact the Riverside Foundation at (757) 234-8740 or email@example.com. To learn how your support makes a difference, visit riversideonline.com/stronger.
