The Barter Theatre is coming to Gloucester Arts on Main for a presentation of “The Emperor’s New Clothes” on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 3:00PM. Tickets are just $8/adults and $5/children. Join them at 1:30PM for a theatrical workshop for young inspiring actors.
It’s Not Just Theatre…It’s Barter!
With a rich history spanning eight decades, Barter Theatre still draws patrons from around the globe every day to Abingdon to enjoy the magic of live entertainment. Barter, the State Theatre of Virginia, helps visitors make memories through its talented cast of resident actors in shows ranging from comedies to dramas to musicals. A multitude of famous actors such as Ernest Borgnine got their start in Barter plays, and today the theatre continues to launch stars from its stages. Come and experience Barter Theatre for yourself.
From such simple beginnings this organization has grown and prospered and has developed a broad range of theatrical presentations for adults and children. Gloucester Arts on Main will be hosting one of Hans Christian Andersen’s favorite children’s stories: “The Emperor’s New Clothes.”
About the play: Just as young Robin is learning the finer points of being truthful from his mother, two “tailors” show up in the kingdom where they live. Knowing that the Emperor loves fancy clothes above all else, they claim they will make a magic set of clothes for him. But these tailors have something up their sleeves, and it’s up to Robin to save the day, reminding all us “grown-ups” that it takes a child to speak the truth.
There will be a special theatrical workshop starting at 1:30 for middle and high school students who are interested in acting. The workshop will discuss various elements of theatrical presentation such as voice, expression, interpretation, and movement.
