The Story of A True Likeness: The Black South of Richard Samuel Roberts
His life’s work, nearly 4,000 glass plate negatives, sat in a dark, dusty crawlspace seemingly forgotten for half a century.
Join the fine folks at Gloucester Arts on Main Thursday, February 27th at 7pm to hear the story of the discovery and recovery of Richard Samuel Roberts’ work.
Phil Dunn, co-editor of the book, A True Likeness: The Black South of Richard Samuel Roberts, will share slides and stories of his extensive time with Roberts’ work. Dunn is a retired professor of art at the University of South Carolina and a professional photographer. He lives in Mathews, Virginia.
This special evening event will be free and open to the public. A cash bar will be available.
