Help out Gloucester nonprofits such as the Giving Garden Foundation, Gloucester Mathews Free Clinic, and Versability Resources by voting in the “Favorite 757 Nonprofit” contest hosted by the Virginia Peninsula Community Foundation.
Hampton Roads was named “America’s Favorite Community” Kimbia, the national sponsor of Give Local America to be held on Tuesday, May 6th. Using the power of social media, the Peninsula Community Foundation and Ferguson Enterprises, presenting partners of Give Local 757, beat out over 100 communities competing for the title, winning $5,000. The award will be added to the $30,000 nonprofit prize pool funded by Ferguson Enterprises whose national headquarters are located in Newport News, Virginia. Give Local America includes more than 6,000 participating nonprofits from across the country, all with the goal of raising money and exposure for their causes. Nonprofits will compete to amplify the donations made to them during the 24 hour event with millions of dollars in prize money. Over 100 nonprofits are registered to participate in the Hampton Roads region as part of Give Local 757 and are competing for more than $35,000 in prizes.
Give Local 757 organizers announced that they would be sponsoring a contest of their own to pick the “Hampton Roads (757’s) Favorite Nonprofit”. The contest gives participating nonprofits a chance to win $1600 in additional prizes. The Peninsula Community Foundation and Ferguson Enterprises, is calling on the public to vote for their favorite nonprofit by simply going to the Foundation’s Facebook page and “like” their favorite nonprofit’s picture at the following link to their Facebook Page:Link to vote for your favorite nonprofit

“It’s been a very exciting week for the nonprofits and they are thrilled by the generous support from the Hampton Roads community and to see the momentum building with each new day,” said Tammy Flynn, the Community Foundation’s Director of Philanthropy. Adding, “Winning $5,000 has given each nonprofit the opportunity to win more prizes the day of the event, amplifying their donations in some cases, by over $7000.”
Kimbia recently sponsored another contest on April 8th, the Give Local America Tweet-a-Thon. The Hampton Roads region, Give Local 757, again won first prize beating the 100 communities participating in Give Local America. Michael Jones, Give Local 757 Project Manager, stated, “Contests are the key to a successful giving day because they provide motivation, action and giving in context for individuals to be philanthropists, therefore, causing more money to be raised to support those that need it the most.”
Voting will end at noon on Monday, May 5th and the winners will be announced at midnight on May 6th to kick off the Give Local 757 24 hour online giving event. To donate, citizens simply visit www.givelocal757.org and complete the online donation form. The donation form is designed to give donors the option to donate to as many nonprofits as they choose so only have to complete one form.
