Gloucester Educational Foundation, Chesapeake Bank, Chesapeake Investment Group offer better-than-ever 3K Walk, 8K Run and family event on Feb. 18

Gloucester – The Gloucester County Public Schools Educational Foundation, along with Chesapeake Bank and Chesapeake Investment Group, invite the public to their 3K Walk and 8K Run on Saturday, Feb. 18, at Gloucester High School. Signup is through tinyurl.com/gcpsedfoundation.

“Our event promises to be better than ever this year – offering more fun activities for families and everyone, and upgrades for the more serious runners and walkers,” said Michael Jenkins, Gloucester Educational Foundation race director.

The event will feature a bounce house, selfie booth, popcorn machine and raffle, thanks to Grand Rental Station of Gloucester. Tidewater Physical Therapy will offer a dynamic “Stretch and Move” time for all families, walkers and runners.
Educational Foundation member Beth Gibson said, “These activities are in addition to the delicious refreshments and many other booths hosted by our generous sponsors.” The Educational Foundation is also awarding $500 to the Gloucester school with the highest percent of participants, which includes all who indicate they are participating for a school.
For the more serious runners, the Educational Foundation has obtained USA Track & Field course certification for the 8K and has increased cash prizes for top finishers in the walk and run. The 8K also has received Grand Prix event designation from the Peninsula Track Club.

More Sponsors than ever before
This family-friendly event is the Educational Foundation’s only fundraiser, and all proceeds benefit Gloucester public schools. “Our profits go directly to helping our schools do even more,” said Gibson. “We give mini-grants to teachers that let them create new opportunities for students, and we sponsor the Teacher of the Year program to reward outstanding performers.”

Chesapeake Bank and Chesapeake Investment Group are the name sponsors for the event. Chesapeake Bank’s Melissa Crawford said: “At Chesapeake Bank, we know that schools help create a more prepared local work force. They contribute to a more vibrant local economy, and they help Gloucester youth realize their dreams. We support these goals.”

Chesapeake Investment Group’s Trudy Quinto added, “We at Chesapeake Investment Group are committed to our community, and we recognize the importance of educating our future leaders. We invite other businesses and everyone else to join us in making Gloucester even better by supporting our award-winning schools.”

“We are so grateful to our generous sponsors this year. They have already donated more than $10,000 to our schools – more than we’ve ever raised before,” said Gibson. “The Gloucester Chamber of Commerce is also supporting our event in several new ways as well.”
