“In Spring 2008, strong opposing northeast and southeast winds rolled into Hampton Roads, Virginia and crashed head-on at an outdoor BBQ that was taking place next to an old C&O Railway spur. The combination of opposing winds, heavy rain, hail, lightning, thunder, smoke, trains, greasy chicken, hot sauce, and short-circuiting amplifiers converged and mixed within a bucket of steaming hot electric blues to create the birth of a new planet: Planet Full Of Blues.”

That was 2008; Planet Full Of Blues’ debut CD took them to Europe and kept the band on the Roots Blues charts for over 30 weeks. Now it’s 2012 and Planet Full Of Blues, Gloucester’s hometown rock ‘n roll blues band is still out there, bringing its edgy blues-rock sound to Tidewater and beyond. With 25-year Gloucester resident Johnny Ray Light writing songs and performing as lead vocalist and guitarist, Hardyville’s Brock Howe songwriting, singing vocals, and playing drums, Ron Dameron on bass, with harmonica, sax, and trumpet kicking in at larger gigs, friends and fans can catch PFOB at many concerts, festivals, and clubs throughout the area. The band partnered with the Gloucester Main Street Association in 2010 to help present the first Main Street Blues and Brews, now the Association’s biggest and most popular event, drawing over 1,000 attendees to the Court House for a fun day of great blues and handcrafted brews. This year Planet Full Of Blues will perform again and manage the music and sound for Blues and Brews on Saturday, October 6. PFOB had such a great time working on Blues and Brews that they joined the Main Street Association Board in 2012 to help promote music and events downtown. PFOB performs at and provides production, marketing, and staff support to non-profits and other partners for public and private music events.
