Gloucester Arts on Main will host a romantic Valentine’s Day Event featuring the L’Tanya Mari Jazz Duo. Tickets are $40 each and include a four course dinner and concert. A cash bar will also be available.

Well respected on the East Coast as an inventive jazz singer, arranger, songwriter and educator, L’Tanya Mari (la-tanya-mar-ee) debuted her much-anticipated  CD, A Teardrop of Sun in early 2009. The project is an eclectic mixture of songs that include fresh versions of standards along with numbers that are lesser-known but quite worthy, ranging from straightahead jazz to bossa novas, sambas, blues and modern fusion. “Of the standards, I particularly love ‘You Go To My Head,’ says L’Tanya. “It connects with and means a lot to many people even though it is decades old. It tells a story that is still relevant and has a life of its own, qualities that I hope are true of all of the songs that I perform.”

L’Tanya will be accompanied by Donato Soviero for the evening. Soviero has been working in and around the DC area for twenty years as a performer. Noted for his superb artistry as a guitarist and composer, Donato’s versalitity affords him equal comfort in many venues, both as band leader and sideman. While his roots are firmly planted in the tradition of mainstream jazz, his scope of musicial interest in nonetheless wide. As composer and arranger, these influences can often be heard shaping his own unique voice.
